What We Believe. . .Classic Christianity

The sole basis of our belief is the Bible, God’s infallible Word, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments.  We believe that it was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, and that it was written without error in the original manuscripts.  It is the supreme and final authority in all matters which it speaks.

We accept those large areas of doctrinal teaching on which, historically, there has been general agreement among all true Christians.  As a general guideline we view the Epistles of Scripture as explanatory of the historical accounts of the Old Testament, Gospels and the Book of Acts.  No such interpretation shall become an issue which hinders the ministry to which God has called us.

  1. There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit each of whom possess equally all the attributes of deity and the characteristics of personality.  Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:18; John 1:1-3, 18; Acts 5:3, 4.

  2. Jesus Christ is God, the living Word, who became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth.  Hence, He is perfect deity and true humanity united in one person forever.  John 1:1, 14; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:30-37; Colossians 2:9; Philippians 2:6-11.

  3. Jesus lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for the sins of man by dying and shedding His blood on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone.  I John 3:5; 1 Peter 3:18; John 10:17-18; II Corinthians 5:21; I John 4:10; Romans 3:24-26; II Thessalonians 2:13.

  4. Jesus rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He had lived and died.                 1 Corinthians 15:4, 14; Luke 24:36-43; John 20:24-29.

  5. Jesus ascended bodily into heaven and sat at the right hand of God the Father where He, the only mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for His own.  Acts 1:9-11; Ephesians 1:20; I Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 7:24-25; I John 2:1,2.

  6. Man was originally created in the image of God.  He sinned by disobeying God; thus, he was alienated from his Creator.  That historic fall brought all mankind under divine condemnation.  Genesis 1:26-27; 2:15-17; 3:1-24; Romans 5:12-21; I Corinthians 15:21, 22.

  7. Man’s nature is corrupt, and he is thus totally unable to please God. Every man is in need of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.  Romans 3:9-20; Eph. 2:1-7; Mark 7:20-23; John 3:1-21; Titus 3:5-7.

  8. We believe that salvation is wholly a work of God’s free grace and is not the work, in whole or in part, of human works of goodness or religious ceremony,  that salvation is a gift of God and is received by man through personal faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for sin.  We believe that all true believers, once saved, are kept secure in Christ forever.  Romans 6:23; 8:1, 38-39; John 10:29-30; Ephesians 2:8-10; Romans 3:21-26; Galatians 3:11-14, 22-24.

  9. We believe that sanctification, which is a setting apart unto God, is positional, progressive, and ultimate.  Positionally it is already complete since the believer is in Christ as is set apart unto God.  Since the believer still has the power of sin dwelling in his body, there is need for progressive sanctification whereby the Christian grows by grace through the power of the Spirit through study and meditation and belief of the written Word.  Ultimately, the child of God will be set apart from sin in his practice as he is now in his position in Christ when he is taken to be with Christ and shall be like Him.  John 17:17; II Corinthians 3:18; Ephesians 5:25-27; I Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 10:10, 14.

  10. The Holy Spirit has come into the world to reveal and glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to men.  He convicts and draws sinners to Christ, imparts new life to them, and continually indwells them from the moment of spiritual birth and seals him until the day of redemption.  His fullness, power and control are appropriated in the believer’s life by faith.  John 16:7-15; Titus 3:5; John 3:5-8; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 1:13-14; I Corinthians 6:19; Galatians 3:2-3; Romans 8:2-4.

  11. Every believer is called to live in the power of the indwelling Spirit so that he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh; but, will bear fruit to the glory of God.  Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 5:18.

  12. We believe that the church, the body and bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism, made up of all born again persons.  Ephesians 1:22-23; I Corinthians 12-13.

  13. We believe that the local church is an assembly of professed believers in Jesus Christ who are voluntarily joined together in one locality for the purpose of God’s glory through edification and evangelism as stated in our statement of purpose.  Acts 2:42-27; I Corinthians 1:1-2; Ephesians 4:11-13

  14. We believe that Christ instituted the ordinances of water baptism and the Lord’s Supper which are to be observed by believers until He returns.  We believe that by water baptism a believer is publicly identified with his Savior; that the mode should be a matter of the individual’s choice; that baptism conveys no saving grace; that we accept Christian baptism and practice believers baptism.  We believe that the Lord’s Supper is a memorial of Christ’s death, the elements being symbols of His body and blood.  We believe that every Christian has a right to partake of the elements of the Lord’s Supper, but that participation should always be preceded by solemn self examination.  Matthew 28:19-20; I Corinthians 11:23-26.

  15. At physical death the believer enters immediately into eternal, conscious fellowship with the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body to everlasting glory and blessing.  II Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23-24; Luke 23:39-42; I Corinthians 15:12-58; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; I John 3:2; Philippians 3:21.

  16. At physical death the unbeliever enters immediately into eternal, conscious separation from the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body to everlasting judgment and condemnation.  Luke 16:19-31; John 5:23-29; Revelation 20:10-15; Matthew 13:40-43.

  17. We believe that angels are spiritual beings who were created as sinless personalities that presently exist in both fallen and unfallen states, the former including Satan and his angels.  Hebrews 1:13-14; II Peter 2:24; Revelation 7:12.

  18. We believe that Satan, by his own choice the enemy of God and God’s creation, is the first offender and therefore the first to commit sin, that he led our first parents into sin and now rules as the god of this world.  We believe that he was judged at the cross and that ultimately he will be cast into the Lake of Fire.  Isaiah 14:12-14; Genesis 3:1-10; Hebrews 2:14; Revelation 20:10.

  19. Jesus Christ will come again to the earth--personally, visibly, and bodily--to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.  Acts 1:9-11; 3:19-21; Revelation 19:1-22:21.
